As today marks Juneteenth 2020, Wolf & Shepherd is reflecting on the uncomfortable past of injustice. We hope that going forward, Black lives and their allies can find comfort in the uncomfortable. Knowing change is actively weaving into all of our lives. Knowing every step in a march resonates through the years to come. The Black Lives Matter movement has amplified undercut voices, creating positive change in multiple aspects of life. We find comfort in knowing a better tomorrow is arriving everyday.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It historically marks the day where overdue freedom was announced to enslaved African Americans in Texas. In more recent times, it has evolved into a day of celebration of Black Americans and their remarkable culture.

America as we know it would not be the same without Black culture’s influence. Jesse Owens is an African-American track star who continues to inspire us today. Known as the “Buckeye Bullet”, he won an impressive four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics. Set in Berlin during a time of heavy racial prejudice, his determination to excel and overcome these barriers encourages us to continue the legacy.

As a company, we are committed to work towards a better future. Emerging from the discomfort are incredible strides promoting justice and elevating the Black community. We look towards these signs of awakening as comfort. We hope you do too.
